Og lidt fra træningsanlææget med AVB

David Hytner
guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 11 July 2012 22.30 BST

One by one they arrived, the dreadfully cynical figures of the national football press, and their eyes dilated in amazement. Tottenham Hotspur's new state-of-the-art training centre, which sprawls across 73 acres in Enfield, is magnificent. Potential signings could be swayed by the facilities, that include 15 grass pitches, an indoor artificial surface, a swimming pool and an enormous gym. As everybody agreed, lightheartedly, it was a far cry from Spurs Lodge.

A key part of this work will be to detail, following extensive local consultation, the boundary for the ‘Stadium Approach’ scheme identifying the exact area of land required with the need to relocate some existing residents (between 16 and 95 households) and up to 14 businesses. Any relocation of residents (up to 72 Council tenants and up to 23 leaseholders in Council owned blocks) will be handled in such a way that they will have the option to remain in the area in planned new development, eg. on the ‘Cannon Rubber’ site to the north of White Hart Lane.

 Land deal spurs Tottenham scheme
By Joanna Bourke | Leisure | 15-02-2013 | 15:30 |Print
A deal has been agreed for the sale of the final chunk of land that will allow Tottenham Hotspur Football Club to plough ahead with its £400m stadium redevelopment.
Haringey council this week backed plans to buy the remaining assets it does not own around the Northumberland Park scheme, N17, including houses and industrial land, and then sell it to the club on a 999-year lease.
The sale removes the risk of right-to-light claims holding up the project, which includes 285 homes, shops, offices and leisure space.

Councillor Claire Kober welcomes Chancellor George Osborne's £500million borrowing guarantee for Tottenham

10:38am Thursday 27th June 2013 in News By Jaber Mohamed

The leader of Haringey Borough Council says the Government’s £500million borrowing guarantee for the regeneration of Tottenham will see ideas turned into reality.

Councillor Claire Kober welcomed the deal which was announced by Chancellor George Osborne in his Spending Review on Wednesday.

The borrowing guarantee means the council, the Greater London Authority and the private sector can now press ahead with financial security with its plans to transform the area.

Proposals include thousands of new homes and jobs as well as better transport links, leisure facilities and business workspace.

Cllr Kober said: “This is hugely positive news for the borough as it means that we can now plan with our partners to move the project forward.

“The other benefit is that it really demonstrates that the Government has confidence in us and our plans.

“They see themselves as a partner and believe this is a serious project which will deliver big things for London.”

Wednesday’s announcement also included an agreement with Transport for London which will now take over management of the West Anglia train routes through Tottenham, as well as the £90m electrification of the London Overground line through to South Tottenham Station.

There will also be £2 million put into a feasibility study for the new Crossrail 2 line which will pass through the borough and connect London’s north east to its south west.

The council leader said transport investment is crucial for securing Tottenham’s future and allowing access to jobs in other parts of London.

She said: “It’s a really important step forward and it impacts the whole of the borough from Alexandra Palace, Turnpike Lane, Seven Sisters and Tottenham Hale.

“The investment will ease overcrowding on trains, improve the service and will mean more people in those areas can not only get to other parts of the borough better but also other parts of the city.”

Despite the huge amount of investment, Cllr Kober warned that plans will not happen overnight and residents need to be patient.

The Seven Sisters ward councillor said: “In order for us to deliver these ambitious plans properly it is going to take a bit of time so we can do it right.

“Consultations have already begun for a few things in Tottenham and there is a lot of stuff going on so things are happening.

“This boost is going to help us make our plans real.”

Government to underwrite £500m investment in Tottenham

27 June 2013 | By Allister Hayman

Treasury agrees to guarantee massive regeneration programme across Haringey, including Tottenham’s new stadium project

The government has agreed to provide a £500m guarantee for a massive regeneration plan across the Tottenham area of London, which includesTottenham Hotspurs’ new stadium development.

The move to underwrite the Tottenham regeneration plan through the UK Guarantees scheme, revealed in documents published alongside the spending review announcement on infrastructure today, will see the government guarantee Haringey council’s plans to embark on a major regeneration programme across the borough.

Haringey council said Treasury’s commitment meant the council and the Greater London Authority, in partnership with the private sector, could now press ahead with financial security for its plans to transform the area, which include thousands of new homes and jobs as well as better transport links, leisure facilities and business workspace.

The council said £1bn of investment was already committed to the regeneration programme, which comprises a range of different projects across the borough, including Tottenham Hotspur’s £400m stadium development plans, known as the Northumberland Development Project.

Haringey council leader Claire Kober said: “I am delighted that Haringey council’s ambitious regeneration plans for Tottenham have now been given secure financial backing by the government.

“Today’s £500m guarantee means we can now get on with the task of bringing up to 10,000 new high-quality homes and more than 5,000 new jobs to Tottenham with confidence, giving better opportunities to local people.”

“We’re well on our way to bringing change to this community, but today’s announcement means we can step up and truly transform Tottenham.”

The UK Guarantee for Tottenham’s regeneration follows earlier guarantees to the £225m project to convert half of the Drax coal-fired power station into biomass, and a further guarantee for the Northern Line extension to Battersea Power Station.

The UK Guarantee scheme was launched July 2012 in a bid to accelerate up to £40bn worth of major infrastructure projects.

Today Alexander also said the government would extend the life of the UK Guarantee programme by two years to 2016.

"It's very difficult for us to keep pace with a United or an Arsenal who can bring in 60,000-plus when our capacity is 37,000. We don't have the marketing and sponsorship of the Emirates or Old Trafford. We don't generate their match-day income. A new stadium equals substantial additional revenues which will enable us to fund the quality of players we need to get to the Champions League. And being in that League will produce more money. That's why the stadium is so important."

Tottenham are planning a new ground at White Hart Lane but the search for revenue explains why they were prepared to migrate to east London.

Mills reveals the club's controversial bid for the Olympic Stadium was because: "[Mayor] Boris Johnson and the Government were very keen for us to bid. We said, ‘Look, there's no point in us bidding if you want a running track. We don't think that's a good enough experience for the fans. We're happy to bid and provide a separate athletics' legacy at Crystal Palace.' But it was clear that the track was more important than we were led to believe. That's history. We're building our own stadium now."

The new stadium can only go ahead when £350m funding is secured. To do that, the club need to sell the naming rights. "We don't have that in place and that's an integral part of the financing," says Mills. "Once we get that, it'll open up the rest of the funding."

With Middle East organisations keen to attach their names to British sport, Levy has travelled to the region but all Mills is willing to says is: "There's been some interest."
